The difference
Low iron vs standard clear glass
Standard clear glass contains a little iron, which gives it a green tint. You notice it most on the edges, through thicker glass, and against white or light-coloured surfaces. Low iron glass has much less iron, so it looks noticeably clearer and more neutral.
That makes it popular where the glass is a feature: pool fences, display cabinets and shelving, and tabletops.

Thicknesses and edges
- Toughened low iron — 6, 10 or 12 mm, arrissed or polished edges.
- Low iron narrowreed (fluted) — 10 mm toughened.
- Standard (annealed) low iron — 6, 10 or 12 mm, for uses where safety glass isn’t needed, such as frames and table protectors. Order it through the order form.
Panels run from 150 mm up to 3600 × 2400 mm.
Worth it?
Is low iron worth the extra cost?
Low iron costs more than standard clear. Enter the same sizes with each glass type in the builder to compare the prices side by side. For small panels or glass that’s seen face-on against a dark background, standard clear may be fine. For thicker glass, white surroundings, or anywhere the edge is on show, many people find low iron worth it.
